Flood!
If you've been following the news, you've likely heard
about all the rain we've had in the past week in the
midwest. In just a few days, we've accumulated over 10
inches of it! I just saw a photo of the park we go to
all the time--the entire play area is under water. The rivers in town are overflowing. Major highways have been closed down, peoples homes are flooded, businesses are water-logged, and deadly accidents are happening.
We're thanking our lucky stars that we live on a bit of an incline. Knock on wood, we haven't had any water problems in our house. But people just a few homes away lost treadmills, TVs, furniture, rugs, priceless photographs, and more that were being stored in their basements. It's just devastating to see this happening right around us.
This is just another reminder to be thankful for every good day we have and to show our love and appreciation for our loved ones.
It's another reminder to scan and back up precious photos and documents so they're in at least two different places at all times. You'll never know how much they mean to you until they're gone.
If you've been affected by the recent rainfall, or any unexpected emergency situation, our thoughts are with you.

I just returned from helping my sister in Indiana with the flood damage. I spent 6 days there ankle deep in mud and water after the creeks had receded. We only lost stuff that we had stored in our storage room but some of those losses were very heartbreaking.
Several pieces of antique furniture ended up in the trash pile. Our "memories" with pictures and papers and baby items were a bit water logged but for the most part we were thanking God each time we opened another bin and things were in good shape.
Just south of our storage room was complete devastation. Houses completely off their foundations or gone altogether and these places were just next to 2 CREEKS. I can't imagine what would have happened if they had been rivers.
We tried to find humor in our clean up. We decorated the storage area with stuff for every holiday including my sister's wedding dress hanging from one of the gutters. Everyone got a laugh and it helped get thru the nasty cleanup.
My thoughts and prayers go out to everyone that was affected by these awful floods.

You didn't remind us all to go through our homes and see what is being stored near ground level. Photos, and financial records should be stored on higher shelves in closets, etc. I don't use many plastic totes but that is a good endorsement for them--no damage if the water is not too deep. I live in Miss. but on a low lot near a creek so that we carry flood ins. but I would hate to have to replace things if thinking ahead could save them.
